A custom neon sign is one of the easiest ways to transform a bedroom, home bar, wedding reception, or storefront. And installing one is simpler than most people expect — especially since Neon Seasons signs can be set up more than one way, depending on where you're hanging it. Whether you've ordered a custom wedding neon sign, a business logo neon sign, or a personalized LED sign, here's everything you need to know about installing and powering your sign.

Two Ways to Install Your Neon Sign

Every custom neon sign can be set up one of two ways, depending on your space and how permanent you want the install to be.

Method 1: Wall-Mounted (Screwed to the Wall)

This is the sturdiest, most permanent option, and it's what's shown in our installation guide. Your sign ships with a wall-mounting kit and a printed installation guide. Before you start, lay out the parts so nothing gets lost:

  • Spacers

  • Wall mount screws

You'll also need two simple tools from around the house: a drill and a pencil (or marker).

Step 1: Mark Your Mounting Holes

Hold your sign up to the wall where you want it to hang, and use your pencil to dot the pre-drilled mounting holes directly onto the wall. Double-check your sign is level and positioned the way you want before you mark it — this is the moment to get the placement right.

Step 1: mark the pre-drilled mounting holes on the wall with a pencil

Step 2: Drill the Holes

Using a 1/8" drill bit, drill into the wall at each point you marked. If you're mounting onto drywall, plasterboard, brick, or another material that needs extra support, use the wall anchors included in your kit so the sign stays securely in place. It's always worth checking your wall type first — a stud finder can help you avoid pipes or wiring behind drywall.

Step 2: drill the marked holes using a 1/8 inch drill bit

Step 3: Attach the Spacers and Mount Your Sign

Place a jelly washer onto each spacer, then line up the mounting holes in your sign with the spacers on the wall. Tighten everything into place using the wall mount screws. The spacers hold your neon sign slightly off the wall, which gives it that clean, floating "glow" look once it's lit.

Step 4: Plug In and Enjoy the Glow

Once your sign is securely mounted, plug in the LED power adapter and switch it on. That's it — your custom neon sign is ready to light up your space.

Method 2: Hanging Wire (No Drilling Required)

For a quicker, drill-free setup, many of our signs can also be fitted with a hanging wire instead of wall screws. Just clip or tie the wire to a hook, nail, or existing fixture and your sign hangs in place — no measuring, marking, or drilling needed. This hanging neon sign option is especially popular for weddings and events, since it's easy to hang directly on a flower arch, a wedding backdrop, or a photo booth frame, and just as easy to take down afterward.

Power Options: Plug-In or Battery-Powered

Most custom neon signs plug into a standard wall outlet using the included LED power adapter. But if you're setting up at a venue without an outlet nearby — or you just want the simplest possible setup — we also offer a battery-powered neon sign option. It's a great fit for weddings, parties, and other events where running a power cord isn't practical, letting you hang your sign anywhere and switch it on with no cables at all.

Indoor or Outdoor: Waterproof Options

We offer a waterproof outdoor neon sign option built to handle the weather, so your sign stays safe and looks great whether it's mounted indoors or out.

Helpful Tips for a Perfect Install

  • Use a level. A small level (or a level app on your phone) makes it much easier to get your sign perfectly straight before you mount it.
  • Mind the power cord. If you're going with a plug-in sign, plan its position around your nearest outlet, or consider a battery-powered version instead.
  • Hanging it for a one-day event? The hanging wire method is the fastest way to put your sign up and take it back down without any tools.
  • Displaying it outdoors? Choose the waterproof outdoor option and mount it on a dry surface using the hardware included in your kit.
  • Unplug before you drill near any outlet or wiring, and always drill with the sign safely set aside — never while it's in your hands.
