A backlit address plaque is one of the simplest ways to make your entrance easier to find after dark, and installing it is more straightforward than it looks. This guide walks through the mounting process for our Custom Backlit Metal Address Plaque, based on the actual hardware and steps included with the sign.
What's in the box
Your address plaque ships in a padded shipping box to protect the panel in transit. Inside you'll find the metal panel with its acrylic backing, the four long mounting screws and nuts used to attach it to your wall, and a printable position template.
Before you begin
Have these on hand before you start:
- The template paper, for marking your drill points
- The mounting screws and nuts supplied with your sign
- A drill and a drill bit suitable for your wall surface
- Epoxy adhesive suitable for your wall surface
Step-by-step installation
Step 1: Position the template and drill the mounting holes
Tape the template paper in your chosen position on the wall. Using the four marked corner points as your guide, carefully drill the mounting holes with a drill bit suited to your wall surface — timber, brick, render and cladding all call for different bits, so check what's appropriate for your wall before you start.
Step 2: Insert the mounting screws
Insert the four long mounting screws provided into the mounting points on the back of the sign, then secure them firmly with the supplied nuts. The screws are approximately 4mm in diameter, so make sure your drilled holes are sized to match.
Step 3: Check alignment and secure the sign
Before reaching for the adhesive, hold the sign up to the wall and test-fit it — all four screws should slide cleanly into the drilled holes. Once you've confirmed the fit, apply a suitable epoxy adhesive to the screws and carefully press the sign into place.
Important: Don't apply epoxy until you've confirmed all four screws line up correctly with the drilled holes. It's much easier to adjust the position before the adhesive goes on than after.
Step 4: Let it set
Hold the sign securely in position while the adhesive begins to set, following the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for curing time. Once it's fully cured, your address plaque is installed and ready to light up.
Choosing a power source
Our address plaques and house number signs are available with your choice of power source: plug-in, hardwired, or solar panel. If you go with the hardwired option, plan for a power wire to run to your mounting point before you drill — it's much easier to route a wire before the sign goes up than after.
